Are bone-in chicken thighs better than boneless chicken thighs?
- we love them both equally but truth be told bone-in imparts more flavor. The bone keeps it juicy during longer cooking times and who doesn’t like to pick up a juicy piece of chicken with thier hands! Delicious hot or cold the next day.
Ingredients for our Baked Bone-in Chicken Thighs –
- grainy mustard 0r Dijon
- honey
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- paprika
- salt
Pat dry the chicken leaving the skin on for a crispy crunchy chicken thigh!
Let’s start!
Combine the mustard, honey and spices.
Spoon or brush the honey mixture evenly over the top of the chicken thighs.
In the oven it goes!

PRO TIP: Line the baking dish with foil or parchment for easy clean up!
How long to bake bone-in Chicken Thighs at 400 degrees –
- About 35-40 minutes. You’ll want to check with a meat thermometer. The internal temp should be 165 degrees and the juices should run clear.
After roasting be sure to let the chicken rest 10 minutes before diving in!

Baked Chicken Thighs Bone-In
Ingredients
- 4-8 chicken thighs bone in, skin on (if desired)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup grainy mustard - sub regular dijon if necessary
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray an 8 x 8 pan with non stick spray. ( Or a 9 x 13 if cooking 8 chicken thighs)
- In a small dish, combine honey, mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika and salt.
- Pat dry chicken thighs with a paper towel. Using a spoon drizzle the honey mixture on top of each chicken breast, spreading around to cover.
- Bake for 40 minutes. Check internal temp with meat thermometer. Perfectly done at 165 degrees.
- Let rest 5-10 minutes before serving.

Yes you could sub chicken breasts. They will cook faster if boneless, about 20 minutes.
