We love simple, easy and kid friendly snacks in our house and these Broccoli Cheddar Pinwheels hit every mark. Store bought crescent dough is wrapped around a broccoli cheddar mixture. These bake up quickly for an easy snack or appetizer everybody loves!

There is something about broccoli and cheddar as a combination that is so filling and delicious. Made popular by the Broccoli Cheddar soup at Panera in recent years, we love this winning combo, and it’s an easy way to sneak a vegetable in for your kids!

Broccoli Cheddar Pinwheel Filling Ingredients

  • Steamed broccoli
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Cream cheese (softened)
  • Granulated garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper

While the oven is preheating, steam the broccoli in the microwave (or use whichever steaming method you prefer). Once steamed, allow to cool. Then, combine with cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, granulated garlic, salt and pepper. Mix until it becomes almost paste-like. You can use an electric mixer if you prefer.

Rolling and Cutting Crescent Dough Pinwheels

Roll the crescent roll dough onto a cutting board (spray the cutting board with nonstick spray so the dough doesn’t stick). Spread the broccoli mixture, and add a little more cheddar cheese on top.  Roll it up tightly into a long roll.

Use a sharp knife to cut the pinwheels into even pieces, about 1/4 inch in width. I like to premark the roll with knife marks so I know where to cut!

Place the pinwheels onto a sheet pan sprayed with nonstick spray (or use parchment paper) and bake for about 12-14 minutes, or until golden brown.

Once fully baked, remove the pinwheels from the sheet pan and place them onto a surface to cool. They’re ready to eat in about 5 minutes!

Author: Kathi & Rachel

Ingredients

  • 1 tube crescent roll dough
  • 1.5 cups fresh steamed broccoli (chopped)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese (divided into 1/2 cup portions)
  • 1 tsp granulated garlic
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Line sheet pan with foil and spray with nonstick spray.
  • Spray a cutting board with nonstick spray. Unroll crescent dough out onto a flat surface, creating one flat sheet of crescent roll dough. Make sure seams are rolled into eachother. Set aside.
  • In a medium sized bowl, combine steamed broccoli, cream cheese, 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well until a thick paste like mixture forms.
  • Spread broccoli mixture evenly over crescent roll dough. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup cheddar cheese over broccoli mixture.
  • Roll crescent roll and broccoli mixture tightly into a log. Cut into 1/4 inch pieces. Move onto baking sheet, and bake for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown.

I made these for my toddler’s daycare lunch. She’ll be lucky if there are any left by morning because my husband likes them A LOT! Easy to make and super yummy. Thanks for the recipe. I’m sure my daughter is going to love them too!

Delicious! Made them as appetizers and everyone loved them. Adjustments/corrections I made to recipe…Take dough out of refrigerator and roll out after filling is combined so that it’s not very soft. Also cut into 8 pieces not 1/4 inch pieces.
