Green Goddess dressing is so fresh and delicious! What makes our recipe unique is a cottage cheese base. You’d never know any different by the taste but the cottage cheese makes it super rich, very healthy and adds a little bit of protein. This is the perfect recipe to use up all of those garden herbs with!
Green Goddess Dressing has some interesting history! The dressing was created at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco in the 20’s. Apparently it was invented to honor actor George Arliss, who was starring in the hit play “The Green Goddess” at the time. The hotel’s chef, Philip Roemer created the dressing to serve to the actor and obviously named it after the play to honor him!
Healthy Green Goddess Dressing Ingredients
- Cottage Cheese
- I use reduced fat but chef’s choice.
- Mayonnaise
- We use only a little bit of mayonnaise for a smooth and creamy finish. You could also use olive oil, or eve full fat greek yogurt if preferred.
- Dijon Mustard
- Garlic
- Fresh or jarred, chef’s choice.
- Salt
- Pepper
- Lemon Juice
- Fresh Herbs
- Use a mixture of 3 herbs for perfect but not overpowering balance.
- I used a blend of parsley, dill, and cilantro. Basil, tarragon, and mint are other options.
- Traditionally chervil (aka French parsley) is used but it’s very hard to find!
- Chives or Green Onions
- Choose chives if you prefer a more mild flavor.
To make our easy cottage cheese green goddess dressing, add the ingredients to a blender (I use a small Ninja blender, I love it!). You may need to add some water to loosen it up. The best cooking advice is to add slowly! you can always add to but you can’t take away so just add a tablespoon of water at a time until you get the consistency you like.
This healthy salad dressing is super easy to make and not only is it great on salads, but it’s delicious as a dip for pasta salads, chicken, or shrimp! I like to keep a jar around just because it’s that good.
How to Store Green Goddess Dressing
- Place the dressing in an airtight container (like a mason jar).
- Label with the date so you don’t forget when you made it!
- Keep it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
These jars from Amazon are great for storing homemade salad dressing!
Enjoy!
