Ranch is a staple in most American households, and one of our favorite ways to enjoy this classic dressing is by making our own Ranch Seasoning! It works great as a topping for loads of items- ranch popcorn, ranch potato wedges, this all purpose seasoning mix is healthy, delicious, and flavorful for endless amounts of foods.
Ranch is a mixture of buttermilk, salt, garlic, onion, herbs- specifically chives, dill, & parsley.
I like to keep a jar in my fridge, its easy to turn it into a load of options. Sprinkle on vegetables before you roast them, on chicken, pork or fish.
- Dip: Add 1/4 cup ranch seasoning with 1 cup mayonnaise and 2 tablespoons buttermilk.
- Dressing: 1/4 cup ranch seasoning with 1 cup mayonnaise, 1/2 cup sour cream, and 1/2 cup buttermilk.
- Ranch Popcorn: Sprinkle popped popcorn with ranch seasoning. Pro tip- add it to a brown paper bag and toss!
The key to rich, classic ranch flavor is powdered buttermilk.
You can find powdered buttermilk in most grocery stores in the baking aisle. You can also order it on Amazon. For the herbs, I like to use freeze dried- Litehouse brand is great. I find freeze dried chives are specifically more flavorful, but if you only have fresh on hand, did you know you can also dry your own? Try this method!

I’m super happy to receive this recipe – were you reading my mind? My family loves Ranch Dressing, so I was also tempted to buy the popular brand of Ranch Seasoning in the plastic jar to spruce up ‘whatever’ they wanted to use it on. I totally changed my mind after seeing the sodium content, WOW! Your recipe sounds fantastic, & I’m anxious to make it. I’d like to use the Buttermilk Powder, so where would I find it in the supermarket? Would it be in the spice section? You always post the most helpful recipes. Thanks, ladies. 💐

What a nice comment, thank you Angela! I bought my buttermilk powder on Amazon (next day shipping, woo!) but you can buy it at most grocery stores in the baking aisle. Let us know what you think once you make it!
