This Smoked Salmon Pizza makes an easy and elegant appetizer or light meal. Made with store bought pizza crust, flat bread or naan, topped with cream cheese, smoked salmon, onion and capers!
Reminiscent of our favorite breakfast of bagels, cream cheese and lox, this easy to prepare Smoked Salmon Pizza is perfect for every meal! Appetizer, breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Quick chat about Smoked Salmon. What is it? Lox? Gravlox? Nova Lox? Smoked Salmon is a general term that fits all three of those labels, but the preparation and spices vary for each variety. For the use in this recipe, any of the above mentioned varieties will work.
Smoked Salmon is readily available in stores these days and you will find it in the refrigerated section of the deli in most cases. Costco also carries a big package if you are feeding a crowd, or need to keep party supplies for last minute get togethers. I keep naan in the freezer and the ingredients for this on hand at all times…Palm Springs lifestyle requires appetizers in a flash!
How to make Smoked Salmon Pizza!
Whether you are using store bought Naan, flat bread or pizza crust, we like to toast it in the oven at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes then cool before smearing on the cream cheese.
Smoked salmon comes very thinly sliced. In most cases you can’t tell where the slice starts or stops. Simple use a knife or fork to remove each slice.
Schmear (I love that word!), your crust with cream cheese. You can use the light version if you prefer but avoid fat free..I’m just not sure about that stuff…is it really cream cheese or wall paper paste?
About half a slice of salmon piled up on top and around the pizza works great.
Now sprinkle with capers and thinly sliced purple onion.
A little parsley if you have it.
Is that easy enough? No wonder we love this recipe so much and the flavor… the flavor is out there! I have never served this where people didn’t go crazy for it!

I’ve made something similar with cream cheese and Nani bread, but never with smoked salmon and capers. I’m trying this. Thanks!

Hi Kathie, just a quick note to say how much I enjoy your simple, tasty, healthy (well generally, lol) recipes. But also your friendly presentation. I would have loved to be your friend and neighbor (and perhaps was, as a Little Norway – Poulsbo – resident in the PNW!)

What a nice note Lonnie! Seriously made my day! I grew up in Renton now in Palm Springs making up for all the years of rain :). Poulsbo is beautiful! xoxoxo!

An I prepare this ahead of time and keep refrigerated until it’s time to serve?
Kathi & Rachel says
Yes! Couple hours ahead would be fine. Longer and the pizza crust might get mushy from the cream cheese.
