MARGARITA CUPCAKES! – Tequila and lime infused cupcakes with a simple cream cheese frosting and a sprinkle of salt will get your party started! These grown up cupcakes are moist, delicious and fun to serve!
We started with our Easy Fresh Key Lime Cake recipe and added a bit of tequila to kick it up a notch!
You can’t beat the flavor of fresh lime and zest. Make sure and zest your lime before you juice it!…yes that makes sense, but let me tell ya I have made that mistake many man times! Slippery little suckers I’ll tell ya….
Mix up your simple and easy batter, fill your cupcake liners about three quarters of the way full.
We found these foil cupcake liners and kinda liked the way they looked all shiny and stuff.
How long do I bake these Margarita Cupcakes for?
- 12-14 minutes is just about perfect at 350 degrees.
- they are perfectly done when the top bounces back when touched but not brown around the edges for tender cupcakes
PROTIP: Many ovens are off temp and can ruin simple baking recipes. We recently moved and our new oven was off by 30 degrees! Invest in a cheap and cheerful oven thermometer. You might be surprised!
Once your cupcakes are cooled, combine tequila and a squeeze of lime in small dish and brush a bit on each cupcake!
Now we’re talking!
Time for the frosting!
We kept the frosting simple but flavorful with cream cheese, butter and lime with a sprinkle of coarse salt to bring home that fresh margarita taste!
You can pipe on the frosting but I’m no fancy baker so I just slather it on with a knife…looks good to me!
Sprinkle a little kosher salt and add a slice of lime and you are ready to party!
We love a party around here and a few of our favorite Party Recipes are:
Smoked Salmon Pizza – Easy, portable and delicious!
Taco Cups! – Wonton wrappers stuffed with taco meat made in your muffin tin!
Easy Guacamole – that won’t turn brown!
Baked Buffalo Cauliflower Bites – this is the one we are asked to bring over and over again!
To cupcakes that aren’t just for kids!

Can the recipe be halved? Can I make it as a cake? Hope these are not stupid questions. I’ve just started baking in my old age and I’m afraid to stray from the recipe. Thanks. Love your blog.
Kathi & Rachel says
Hi Merideth! No stupid questions here! Yes, you can half this easily by hovering the curser over the ‘servings 24’ in the recipe card. A drop down slider will appear like magic and you can slide it to the amount you want! The cake recipe for this is our Key Lime Cake and you can find that here: https://laughingspatula.com/fresh-key-lime-cake/. Perfectly legit questions! Thank you for loving us xoxoxo!
