Wedge Salad Platter for a Crowd! – This beautiful and unique salad will be a hit at your next party! It takes only minutes to make with easy store bought ingredients!
Wedge Salads are back! They disappeared for a few years but like everything old…it becomes new again! Somebody tell my body that pa-leeese!
I first saw this platter at a party in Palm Springs. And let me tell ya, Palm Springs knows how to party! It ain’t your grandmas Palm Springs anymore!
We recently bought a second home there and Rachel and Greg loved it so much they moved here full time! Bring on the sunshine and parties! We have since made this salad over and over again…crowd pleasing, easy to assemble and made with easy store bought ingredients.
How to make this Wedge Salad for a Crowd!
PRO TIP: When choosing your lettuce, go for lightweight heads. The lighter the weight, the less dense yellow lettuce you will have in the center. I used two small heads of iceberg in the photo. Simply quartered it.
What kind of toppings can I use to make this Wedge Salad?
- chopped bacon
- Chopped eggs
- crumbled blue cheese
- You can also add chopped purple onion, chives, green onion and tomato
I cut everything in large chunks. I used a store bought blue cheese dressing, because, well, ya know…lazy cook :). And with so many great brands out there, why not! Go for one in the cooler section of the produce department for super fresh flavors.
I dressed it all up before I served, then put some additional dressing in the center. Pretty easy! And the good news is it stands up better than a tossed salad. The iceberg stays crisp for hours…even in the Palm Springs heat!
This recipe is for 8 but you can adjust it to suit whatever number you need.

Great salad. Love the idea of serving on a platter with dressing in the middle. Never occurred to me to use Ranch – we are blue cheese lovers so I went with that ( I used Renee’s chunky blue cheese that I added sour cream and apple cider vinegar to to lighten the texture and topped it with crumbled blue cheese). Added some grape tomatoes for colour – it was a real hit. Thanks also for tip about putting vinegar in the water to make the hard boiled eggs.

Makes for a great presentation. Had these salad wedges along with boiled shrimp for my mom’s 72nd birthday dinner party.

So do we soak the head of lettuce? I’m scared of not rinsing. When I worked in a restaurant and prepped the salad, I found slugs a couple times. I ALWAYS rinse!
Kathi @ LaughingSpatula.com says
If there is a slug in your salad take it out…not a good source of protein LOL! Yes, I always rinse my fresh produce. I don’t always include that kind of detail in our recipes, assuming the cook knows best. But maybe I should! Thanks for the note Michelle!

Kathi, this looks delish with eye appeal, and I was wondering about the washing of the leaves. Do you cut and then wash to be able to easily stack the pieces back on top of each other? This may be a silly question, but I am just wondering if it will wind up being a bit tedious like trying to put a puzzle together.
Kathi & Rachel says
Hi Melanie – I just remove the core, give the whole head a rinse, shake real well and pat dry. Cut wedges and pat dry again. If your a wash each ever leaf kinda gal than ya, it’s going to be time consuming :).

I haven’t had a wedge salad in forever, but I know they’re in fashion again. This would be great with a nice grilled steak for dinner!

How do you eat these? Are they finger food? Or a side??
Kathi @ LaughingSpatula.com says
Hi Lori – I consider them a side. Eat with a knife and fork. Traditionally a steak knife is served with them.

Had never thought of doing salad this way. My family is picky. Dressing would have to be ranch in our family, and a variety of veggies could be included to please everyone’s tastes.
Kathi @ LaughingSpatula.com says
I love the idea of Ranch! It goes really well with crisp Iceberg…why not!
Elaine @Flavour and Savour says
