We take our salmon recipes seriously around here, and this Easy Salmon Seasoning is the perfect recipe for restaurant quality salmon right at home. This recipe uses ingredients you likely already have in your pantry, and you can make alot, or a little at a time!
Salmon Seasoning Ingredients
Salmon is a rich fish, full of healthy fat and loads of flavor. To complement salmon, we like our seasoning to have some sweetness, saltiness, and a little bit of smokiness. This blend of seasoning works on all types of salmon (Atlantic, Sockeye, Coho, etc).
- Smoked paprika
- Salt
- Pepper
- Onion powder
- Oregano
- Thyme
- Granulated Garlic
- Sugar
Storing Salmon Seasoning
This recipe is super easy to make, and the best part is- it keeps for a long time! This salmon rub keeps for up to 6 months in an airtight jar (or plastic bag). You can make it in small or large batches!
How to Season Salmon
- We like to rub our salmon with about 1 tbsp of olive oil to ge the seasoning to stick, and then season our fish.
- You can choose to only top the salmon with seasoning, or you can rub the entirety of the filet with seasoning, chef’s choice.
- You can season this salmon up to an hour in advance. We don’t recommend seasoning for much longer than that- the salt in the rub can draw out the moisture of the fish, resulting in less tender salmon.
Cooking Seasoned Salmon
- The key to making perfect Salmon is to bake it until it is a few degrees less than fully done, then let it come up to temperature while it rests.
- By cooking salmon to a temperature of 135 degrees Fahrenheit and letting it come up to 145 degrees farenheit outside of the oven, you’re letting the fish cook completely, without it becoming dry and overdone. The end result is perfect, buttery, melt in your mouth salmon!
How to Cook Seasoned Salmon
Oven:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Place salmon on foil lined sheet pan.
- Rub 1 tablespoon of olive oil or avocado oil on salmon.
- Sprinkle seasoning over salmon.
- Bake for 15 minutes, or until thickets part of salmon is 135 degrees Fahrenheit, keeping an eye on salmon temperature to ensure it does not overcook. Remove from oven at 135 degrees farenheit, allowing salmon to rest and come up to 145 degrees Fahrenheit during resting period.
Air Fryer:
- Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees fahrenheit.
- Spray air fryer basket with nonstick spray.
- Rub salmon with 1 tbsp of olive oil, then rub with salmon seasoning until lightly coated.
- Air Fry salmon for 10-15 minutes, or until salmon reaches 135-140 fahrenheit.
- Remove from Air Fryer and place onto platter, allowing salmon to rest & come up to temperature of 145 degrees fahrenheit.
Grilled:
- Make sure grill is clean by brushing grates beforehand, this will help the salmon to not stick.
- Preheat grill to 450-500 degrees.
- Place salmon directly on grill, and close lid. Do not touch.
- Cook for 7-12 minutes, or until salmon reaches 135-140 degrees at its thickest point (salmon will release easily from grill once close to done).
- Remove from heat, and allow to come up to temperature on platter.
