We love ground chicken for how healthy it is and how quickly it cooks, so naturally, we had to share our recipe for ground chicken burgers! This easy and simple recipe comes together in a flash, and you can serve these ground chicken burger patties on a bun, or on their own for a nice easy protein source.

Ground Chicken Burger Recipe
This is one of our go-to’s for easy weeknight meal. I’ve had them in lettuce wraps for low carb dinners, just the patty by itself, and also on buns for a traditional chicken burger.
The secret to a great chicken burger is buying quality chicken. My favorite brand is Isernio’s. They use a mixture of chicken thighs, and chicken breasts which makes the fat content a little higher, resulting in a super moist ground chicken that doesn’t dry out as easily as plain ground chicken breasts.
Ground chicken is a finer meat than ground beef, and it has a pretty mild flavor, so it seasons well, making it perfect for burgers!
Ingredients for Ground Chicken Burgers
You only need a few ingredients for the best chicken burgers. I make these for my son and it’s a big deal if he eats anything I cook that isn’t a chicken nugget or pizza. We keep these by the batch in our house!
- Ground Chicken: 1 lb yields about 4 medium sized patties.
- Breadcrumbs or Panko Crumbs: I prefer panko crumbs, I find them to be less mealy.
- Egg: This helps bind the breadcrumbs to the ground chicken.
- Milk: Important in chicken burgers, this helps with dryness, making for a more moist patty.
- Seasonings: A mixture of salt, pepper, granulated garlic, and parsley flakes (or herb of choice).
You can of course season chicken burgers as you like. You could add smoked paprika, chili powder, cumin, ginger, more garlic, fresh herbs, dry herbs, there’s really no end to the combinations! We do have other ground chicken recipes if you ant to try those as well: Spinach feta chicken burgers, Greek chicken burgers, chili-lime chicken burgers and chicken pesto burgers.
Cooking Methods for Ground Chicken Burgers
This is a super forgiving recipe and you can cook it a few ways! Ground chicken is fully cooked once it reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit so no matter the method, just be sure to use your chicken is fully cooked. An electronic meat thermometer works wonders!
- Pan Cooking (Stovetop): Add 1 tbsp of olive oil to a medium pan and cook for about 7 minutes on either side. Don’t press down with a spatula even though it’s tempting. You want to keep the burgers as juicy as possible!
- Grilling: Preheat grill to medium high heat, then spray with nonstick spray. Grill burgers on each side for about 6 minutes.
- Air Fry: Air fry at 400 degrees fahrenheit for about 12-15 minutes. If you’re air frying burgers, I recommend spraying the tops of the burger with nonstick spray for better browning.
Storing, Variations, and Leftovers
- You can serve the burgers immediately after cooking.
- If you want to add some extra flavor, try our basil aioli, it goes so great with the fresh chicken! You can also chop up the chicken burger and put it on top of a crisp salad (I do this often for weekday lunches!).
- If you have leftovers, you can wrap them in foil and store them in the refrigerator (or in an airtight container). The patties will last for up to 4 days.
