Everybody loves Hot Fudge Sundaes and we are kicking ours up a notch with this homemade Hot Fudge Sauce! It whips up in 10 minutes and uses ingredients you likely already have in your fridge. Nothing is better than homemade and this is no exception to that rule. This hot fudge may just change your life.
Easy Hot Fudge Recipe
There is absolutely no comparison to store bought versus homemade hot fudge sauce. Homemade hot fudge is decadent, thick, smooth and delicious. It comes together in about 10 minutes, and you can keep a jar in the refrigerator, or gift it to friends with a big tulle ribbon around it. What I like about making this homemade is it tastes homemade. You will be able to tell a difference in taste. No artificial aftertaste, just smooth, delicious, rich fudge.
Ingredients Needed to make Fudge Sauce
- Heavy Cream
- Corn Syrup (light or dark)
- Brown Sugar
- Cocoa Powder
- Dark Chocolate
- Guittard is my go to! Trader Joes’ also has great dark chocolate. Here’s a useful article about the best store bought dark chocolate.
- Salted Butter
- Vanilla Extract
Making Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce
I recommend using a medium size pot, and a silicon whisk. Why a silicon whisk? Because you should always use silicon when you’re using a metal pot, especially teflon, so you don’t scratch it.
- Combine all of the ingredients (except the butter, vanilla and only 1/2 of the chocolate to start) in a saucepan.
- Bring to a boil and stir continuously while boiling for about 5 minutes. For the last and final step, add the remaining chocolate, the butter, and the vanilla extract. Remove from heat, continue to stir, and set aside to cool sauce to your liking.
Modifications for Fudge Sauce
- For a dairy free version, you can use full fat coconut milk, and vegan butter.
- Add chopped nuts or 1 tbsp of peanut butter for a nutty finish.
- Coffee lover? Add 1/2 teaspoon of espresso powder for a mocha-y finish.
Serving, Storing & Reheating Homemade Fudge
- I like to store my fudge sauce in mason jars- it will last up to 2 weeks in your refrigerator.
- Reheating Instructions: I recommend placing a few tablespoons (or however much you are serving) in a separate dish and microwaving it for 10-15 seconds at a time.
- Fair warning, this is a recipe with sugar, and sugar gets hot fast- be cautious when reheating so you don’t burn yourself.
- Serve this over ice cream, on brownies, cookies, or even just straight from the jar. We don’t judge. : )
